Synopsis

Our feature film ANGEL LADY is a heart-warming, but gritty fable touched by magical realism.It offers hope in a time when the world feels dark. People are hankering for entertainment that’s uplifting and positive – like Ted Lasso, a hit on Apple +.

As in Ted – ANGEL LADY is about pressing the reset button to finally, deeply absolutely believe in yourself, your dreams, and the dream of your team or your community.

Our story is about Ella, an ex-con single mom who exploits a mysterious glitch on her TV, to raise money for her son’s schooling. This phenomena inspires and divides the border town where they have settled. The crisis comes, when Ella’s dark past is exposed. Now the Angel Lady really needs to believe in herself and in miracles – to survive.

Doña María is Ella’s neighbor – a curandera – a healer and a leader in their trailer park. She is the embodiment of our message, “We are Angels to Each Other.” Doña María and her Ladies, help Ella host the Angel on her TV. They decorate her trailer, and fill it with love, food, and joy.
ANGEL LADY offers a window into a community of no judgment.

We witness compassion and kindness for people who are struggling. In her time of deep uncertainty, Ella is taken in and loved unconditionally.

Edgar Pablos

Producer – Director

Edgar Pablos learned his craft while assisting notable directors, like Joe Dante, Mike Figgis, and Antoine Fuqua. He has directed his own award-winning short film, AGUA DULCE. Now he creates documentaries and commercials for prominent national organizations.

Edward Kovach

Writer

Edward has written or co-written some 40 screenplays, under various pen names. Eight of the scripts have been produced, more have been optioned. As “Ed Kovacs” he authors the critically-acclaimed Cliff St. James mystery/crime series published by St. Martin’s Press.

Jim Dooley

Composer

Jim Dooley is our composer, on board to write a beautiful score for Angel Lady. He won critical acclaim for “A Series of Unfortunate Events” and an Emmy for “Pushing Daisies.”

Alan Luna

Producer – Casting Director

Alan Luna is a Casting Director and Producer for TV, Film & Animation. He’s a founding partner of ABL Casting, a casting office launched by him and fellow Casting Directors Michelle Adams & Natalie Ballesteros. With over a decade of casting and development experience, Alan has collaborated on a number of projects with Netflix, HBO Max, Disney, Nickelodeon, Marvel Studios, Amazon, Blumhouse, and producers such as Paul Feig, Lin Manuel Miranda, Kyra Sedgwick, Jason Blumhouse, Angel Manuel Soto, and many others.

“Georgette”

An extremely gifted, versatile performer adept at both comedy and drama, actress/singer Katey Sagal became a household name in the late 1980s as the fabulously brazen, undomesticated Peg Bundy on the enduring Fox series Married… with Children (1987). During its lengthy run she received three Golden Globe and two American Comedy Award nominations.

Peter Jason

“Chief Bud”

Prolific and versatile character actor Peter Jason made his film debut in Howard Hawks’ final film, Rio Lobo. In addition to his substantial film and TV show credits, Jason has acted in over 150 plays and hundreds of TV commercials.

Alma Martínez

“Doña María”

Alma holds a Ph.D. in Drama from Stanford, an M.F.A. in Acting from the USC and a B.A. in Theatre from Whittier College. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, has acted on Broadway, and in Regional Theaters across the country.

Mimi Kennedy

Best known to television viewers as a series regular on two Chuck Lorre hit comedies: “Dharma & Greg” (5 seasons) and “Mom” (8 seasons). She garnered a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Marjorie in Season 1 of “Mom” before becoming a series regular in Season 2.
